About Washington DC Labiaplasty Surgery Doctors
Vaginal rejuvenation or Vaginoplasty is primarily a reconstructive surgery that is designed to reduce the labia minora and/or majora (the outer and/or inner lips of the vagina). The procedure also corrects irregular features such as difference in size or asymmetry. A large labia can cause both emotional anxiety and physical discomfort in women, which is why hymenoplsty surgery in Washington DC and many other areas is becoming increasingly popular. Women with a large labia may also have low self confidence especially if it’s visible when they are wearing tight pants or bathing suits. On the other hand, large labia can interfere with friction on your clitoris and make sexual activity painful, irritating, itchy or unsatisfying. The causes of abnormal labia either in shape or size vary from aging to being congenital or even giving birth multiple times. The Vaginoplasty procedure can help eliminate such issues and make your labia more attractive, smaller and natural looking.
The Vaginoplasty Procedure
The procedure modifies uneven or elongated labia in order to make them symmetrical or smaller by removing the excess tissue with a laser under local or general anesthesia. Therefore, this short outpatient procedure modifies the shape and size of the labia in order to provide a pleasant aesthetic aspect of the genital area.
The point where an incision will be made is dependent upon various factors including the size, contours and texture of the labia. The labia are contoured according to the wishes of the patient and sealed using dissolvable sutures.
There are two main techniques used: the wedge technique and the trim technique.
- Trim technique
In this approach, the excess tissue of the labia minora mainly at the edges are “trimmed” or cut away to a desirable size and shape. This technique is recommended for patients who have discolored or uneven outer edges or patients who want a combination of clitoral hood reduction because the surgeon can use one incision to complete both procedures. There are two options available within this technique: laser technique or the classic trim technique which is usually performed using traditional surgical instruments. Laser causes less bleeding and takes less time than the classic (traditional) trim technique.
- The wedge technique
This technique involves removal of a wedge shaped tissue from the middle of the labia and stitching up the bottom and top sections back together. This is usually recommended for patients whose labia have excess tissue or are asymmetrical and do not have ant issues long the edges. This procedure preserves the edges of the labia and less stress is placed on the stitches as the patient heals because the incisions are interior ones. This reduces the risk of post-surgical complications.
- Eliminates discomfort and pain and increases sexual gratification.
Women who undergo the surgery achieve an end to the pain and discomfort they were experiencing prior to the surgery. This can help change their lives and disposition. In most cases enlarged labia cause pain and discomfort during exercise and sex. After Labiaplasty it will be possible for such women to exercise comfortably and enjoy sexual intercourse.
In the procedure the surgeon tightens the tissue and muscles around the genital area in order to restore and/or increase sexual gratification. Therefore, the sexual sensation is increased for both the woman and her partner.
- Confidence boosting
Restoring the vagina to its natural state boosts women’s confidence and the way they generally feel about themselves. Some women are born with enlarged labia minora while in some cases the appearance of the Labia Minora changes after childbirth, with aging or after traumatic injury. Therefore, such patients might experience discomfort or embarrassment with exercise, sexual intercourse or in tight clothing. After, this procedure you can wear whatever suits you and feel good in it.
The procedure takes between 1 and 2 hours. Most patients experience some discomfort and swelling after the procedure, but this will away within a week or two. Although patients can resume mild activity within a week after the surgery, it is vital to avoid jogging, running, sexual intercourse and lifting heavy objects for at least 4 to 6 weeks post surgery.
